Hawthorne Hill House on Gregory Creek
Our 5-year old dream home sits on almost 29 acres, about one mile west of the Salmon River bridge near White Bird. We access the property by a well-maintained gravel road which is easily negotiable year round.

There is a seasonal creek on the property, which provides water music from snowmelt to mid-July. Trees offer shady hideaway picnic areas. One of these groves near Gregory Creek has a maintained path leading from the house down to cool hidden places where the peace, quiet and view provide incomparable meditation spots. Here you will see and hear the many birds, wild iris, lilac, and other wild flowers. In spring and summer the hawthorne, syringa, honeysuckle and wild rose are in full bloom close to the house, as are red and yellow plum, cherry, and apple trees—all that remains of an old homestead. Blackberries and blackcaps grow by the creek. As the air warms in the spring, the smell of pines and other blossoming plants is heavenly. In the fall, bright red sumac contrasts with gold trees of heaven by the creek.

Landscaping includes river rock planters and a full-circle driveway. There is a 10’x20’ shed for outside storage, a well, 1,200 gallon cistern and trouble-free septic system. While the house is wired for and equipped with a generator, it almost never gets used, since power is so reliable in the White Bird area.

Within view of the house, several acres could provide grazing for cows, horses, llamas. There is excellent soil below the house for a large garden. Or you could just sit on the porch and watch the wildlife: turkeys, deer, many game birds, hummingbirds, an occasional moose or elk. Bobcat and coyotes too. See Eye of Idaho for lots more about local wildlife.

Back side of the house (the river side)
The 2700+ square-foot, cedar-sided house was finished in late 1998. Designed and positioned to take full advantage of this unique site, it boasts a stunning, 360-degree panorama view of the canyon and surrounding mountains. To exploit the view from inside, twenty seven windows were carefully placed.

The wide, wrap-around porches are perfect for critter watching, entertaining, sunbathing or just goofing off. These porches shade the main and lower floor windows and serve to insulate the house from sun and wind. On the lower level (river side), a large cement patio adds another cool space.

The home has three bedrooms, including a large master suite which occupies the entire top floor. There are 3 baths (one with a spa tub room). Two large multi-purpose rooms in the daylight basement provide lots of room for everyone's business or hobby activities. We have a lot of books, so these areas became our libraries.

Outside there's a garden shed at the base of the driveway, visible just to the left of the big pine at right.
